My Journey
to Hypnotherapy & Coaching
Hi, my name is Nick, and I would like to tell you of my journey to become a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist as all my life experiences have shaped the person that I am today and have brought me to where I am in this very moment.
I have always had an interest in working with and supporting people and in my early twenties I embarked on my career working in the health and social care sector where I am still working today. During those years I worked in many different services including mental health, drug and alcohol, homelessness, and with an ex-offender resettlement service. I thoroughly enjoyed my time working for these services and the people that accessed them. What I really enjoyed about the work was seeing how people could turn their lives around. It never ceased to amaze me how resilient, resourceful, strong, and awesome people could be in the face of such adversity, trauma, and hardship. It was truly inspiring. This fascinated me and made me realise how powerful the human mind is and that if people were provided with the right environment, they could turn their lives around. We are stronger than we realise.
Through my work supporting other people I learnt a lot about myself, and this motivated me to travel and study so that I could learn more and meet new people. I taught English as a Foreign Language in Thailand, went on silent meditation retreats, and visited the temples. I visited Peru and studied plant medicines with the Shipibo tribe. All these experiences and more helped open my mind and when I returned to the UK these experiences helped me with my work.
Whilst working in the health and social care sector I discovered that there were alternative treatments that people could access for their health that were effective. This led me to study reflexology, aromatherapy, and massage which are very effective in relaxing people and stimulating the body’s own healing processes. I witnessed the healing benefits of these treatments which led me to eventually becoming a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist. What I like about this form of hypnosis is that the person is in the driver’s seat during the hypnosis, and I act merely as the sat nav (but less robotic). It encourages people to look for solutions to their own problems and tap into their own inner strengths and resilience – all qualities I know that are there.
I have a practice at home but also provide on-line sessions. I also currently volunteer as a Hypnotherapist at the Olive Tree Cancer Support Centre in Crawley.
